Paleo Diet – Weight Loss the Old School Way
No, ladies and gents, ‘Paleo diet’ is not a cult. Nor is it the latest dieting fad, even if it is growing in popularity. On the contrary, in fact. It is one of the oldest, most natural diets around, dating back donkey’s years. But here’s the important part… it actually works!
Are you ready to lose weight and become a leaner, healthier you? Read on.
Doing It ‘Old School’
Many people agree that “they just don’t make them like they used to”, and the same can be said for diets. No, really. You see, we may be able to build skyscrapers, make things fly, and talk to Aunt Betty in Alaska at the swift click of a button, but physiologically, we haven’t really changed.
We’re still flesh and bone, calories can still make us fat, and our health and wellbeing is still largely influenced by what we eat. For those looking to lose weight, that isn’t always good news. With our busy modern lifestyles, it has become incredibly easy to develop bad eating habits and make excuses for them. There is a way around that, though – go back to the beginning. Way, way back.
What is the Paleo Diet?
“Paleo” is an abbreviation of the word “Paleolithic”, which refers to a prehistoric human era on earth dating back over 2.5 million years. In other words, when your forefathers were hairy brutes carving stickmen onto rocks – yes, the Stone Age. In those days, folks had to hunt and gather since they did not have the knowledge and resources we have today. But ironically, they were healthier.
The average hominin was lean, muscular, agile, and versatile, as opposed to the average person today that is overweight, stressed out and disease-ridden. Why were they healthier? Because the foods they ate were natural, unprocessed, and didn’t include grains.
They fed on fruits, nuts, vegetables, and meats, whereas today we are reliant on rice, pasta, bread and corn for nutrition – grains that are farmed. These foods are considered ‘staples’ by most governments since they are filling and relatively cheap. Here’s the problem: they aren’t all that healthy, and they make you fat.
Paleo diet efforts address these issues. It promotes eating the way primitive man did – if they didn’t eat it, why should you. It boils down to you eliminating certain foods from your current diet; foods that wreak havoc within your body.
Why the Paleo Diet?
You’re probably wondering what the deal is with grains, so I’ll explain briefly…
First, they contain carbohydrates. These carbs turn into glucose that is used as energy and supports bodily functions – a natural process of the body. But, any glucose that is not used up is stored as fat. Secondly, grains usually contain lectins and gluten, both of which are linked to weight gain and a variety of medical problems and conditions.
But it’s not only the grains you need to do away with when sticking to the Paleo diet food list – dairy, legumes, sugar, processed foods and certain meats (grain-fed animals) are also out. Sugar is a big-time instigator of fat and malady, so unless you’re getting it from fruit, it’s a big no-no.
The Paleo diet removes these food types from your diet, which basically means that you aren’t prompting fat production and storage, or disease. Let me break it down for you… no grains, no processed foods, and no sugar = weight loss, vitality and longevity. A small price to pay.
It’s Not Just WHAT You Eat
Okay, so common sense tells us that the Paleo diet plan works, as do doctors, dietitians and the thousands who have adopted the plan and seen fantastic results. But it’s not just about what you eat; how often you eat (or have a craving to) matters as well.
Remember, the Paleolithic plan isn’t some miracle fat buster – it is a natural eating plan. So if you’re really on a mission to lose weight, you may want to look into how you can safely suppress your cravings and appetite. Trust me, at some point, temptation will strike, and you will feel the urge to dip into the cookie jar.
Saffron extract can remedy this, and it works great with a Paleo diet.
I’m Sorry, Saffra What?
Saffron is taken from the Crocus Sativus flower, and has been used as a spice in kitchens around the world for many years – especially in Indian, Arab, and Persian cuisines. It adds aroma, flavor and coloring to foods. It is also used to make fabric dye and perfume, and has a long history as a medicinal agent. You might know what I’m talking about – it’s that orange stuff that sells for well over $2 per oz in the shops.
Okay, so what does that have to do with weight loss and Paleo diet recipes? Well, it turns out that saffron extract (more specifically, satiereal saffron extract) is in fact very effective as an appetite suppressant, and it is therefore now sold as a dietary supplement. Does it work? It sure does, and it is all natural and comes with zero side effects! Even the likes of Dr. Oz have go on to enthusiastically test and endorse it.
Unlike other supplements that mess with your hormones and bodily processes, saffron extract works by raising serotonin levels in the brain. That, in turn, triggers a feeling of satiety (satisfied fullness) and suppresses appetite. It is especially effective for emotional eaters, who tend to binge when they feel stressed or depressed.
For you as a weight loss aspirant, combining this craving-killer with a natural Paleo diet could finally see you shed some pounds.
